Patients with pyogenic liver abscess often present to the emergency department with fever of unknown origin. Pyogenic liver abscess is a rare complication of diabetes, usually seen in adults greater than 50 years old. In this report, we describe a 60-year-old male patient found to have type 2 diabetes and a pyogenic liver abscess caused by Bacteroides fragilis in the process of evaluation for fever of unknown origin.
