Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine the relationships between home music environments, attitudes towards music lessons and personal variables of elementary school students. The study group includes 246 students who are attending Göçerler and Mareşal Fevzi Çakmak Elementary Schools in Antalya. In the study, data were collected by Personal Information Questionnaire, Home Musical Environment Scale (α= .85) and Attitudes towards Music Lesson Scale (α= .86). Home Music Environment Scale has 3 dimensions which are named as “Producing Music at Home” (α= .85), “Consuming Music at Home” (α= .75) and “Parent Attitudes Towards Music Concerts” (α= .84). Findings indicated that there are positive and meaningful correlations between home musical environments especially music producing & consuming dimensions and attitudes towards music lessons.
