Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine physical education (PE) teachers’ opinions on the efficacy of Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Program. Within the scope of the study, out of 132 PE teachers, sixty-six teachers working as PE teachers, who graduated from the School of Sport Sciences and Technology (SSST), Hacettepe University in 1994-2006, were accessed. Focus group interviews were conducted with 16 PE teachers from the research group. Data analysis was made through frequency and percentage calculations and the content analysis method. When the opinions of PE teachers were analyzed, it was seen that the usage of the courses related to general culture, pedagogic content knowledge, and field content knowledge were higher level and the courses related to teaching profession knowledge always worked for them. However, teachers stated that the contents of courses related to general culture should be changed according to the KPSS examination and practical applications need to be emphasized in courses related to field content knowledge.
