Abstract

İn this article, a fomı of Glasser’s Problem Solving Approach to solving discipline problems is examined in terms of helping students solve problems and take responsibility for their own behaviour. Students’ needs such as belonging, power, fun and freedom, and helping the students meet their needs are extremely important in Glasser’s approach. Glasser(1969, 1986, 1992) suggested step by step approaches to deal with misbehaviour in both primary and secondary classrooms. This approach consists of several stages. These are communicating with students, helping the student to describe his/her behaviour in concert terms, making value judgements about behaviour, developing a plan for changing behaviour, conducting the plan and considering the plan when the suggested plan is not working. In order to use this approach effectively, teachers are recommended to inform their students of which stages they will follow.
