The Effect of Cooperative and Traditional Learning Methods on Attitudes Towards Learning Music

Abstract

This study has been carried out of find out the effects of cooperative and traditional learning techniques on attitudes towards music. As is known, students’ achievement and performance are affected by attitudes in music education as other areas in education. The subjects were 155 6th graders from Dokuz Eylül Junior High School, İZMİR; 79 female and 76 male. In this study, pre-test and post-test desing with control groups was used. Two experimental groups and two control groups were compared. In the experimental group Jigsaw-1 and Learning Together, in control group Starting out by rythms of Melody and Whole-Piece-Wliole techniques were applied. In the collection of data a “Scale of Attitudes Towards Music’’ developed by the researcher was used. In the analysis of data frequency, mean, standard deviation, Analysis of variance and the Scheffe Test were employed. The results of this study indicate that cooperative learning techniques are more effective on the attitudes of students towards music.
